Overview

Oak Grove Technologies, LLC a fast-growing federal contractor, is seeking an Vehicle Mechanic to support federal law enforcement training at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Artesia, New Mexico.  Oak Grove Technologies offers a competitive compensation and benefits package.

Responsibilities

 

 

  • Routine maintenance includes but is not limited to changing or replacing motor oil and filters, belts, hoses, wiper blades, power steering fluid, and air filters, brake pads and motor vehicle air conditioning (MVAC) units. This also includes inspection of lighting, safety equipment, inspection of tires, brakes (including adjustment) and DOT mandated items such as fire extinguishers, road flares, and warning triangles.
  • Maintain the motor pool/garage area in a neat, uncluttered and orderly condition
  • Maintain and clean out the Oil/Water Separator on a regular basis, this includes disposal of debris/oil, periodic cleaning of the collection pit, clearing the trench of debris, etc.
  • Add oil, transmission fluid, brake fluid, coolant and other fluids, as necessary
  • Change oil, oil filter, transmission fluid and filter, coolant, air filter, belts, hoses. brake pads and spark plugs on a regular basis as dictated by manufacturer guidance/usage rates
  • Manage and recycle used oil in accordance with EPA 40CFR279
  • Manage and recycle used antifreeze in accordance with Environmental Compliance for Automotive Recyclers (ECAR) Antifreeze Fact Sheet for New Mexico  
  • Perform Hazardous Waste Satellite Accumulation Area and Universal Hazardous Waste management responsibilities
  • Provide appropriate size drip pans and absorbent for leaking vehicles awaiting repair; ensure spill kits (for petroleum products, acids, etc.) are available for use and that contractor personnel are trained on proper spill containment and cleanup (i.e. motor pool and auto shop personnel)
  • Notify the FLETC-Artesia Environmental Office immediately upon discovery of a spill (oil, hydraulic fluid, fuel, etc.). If there is a possibility of fluid spreading prior to arrival of Government personnel, Contractor shall contain with absorbent, booms or other containment methods as appropriate.
  • Inspect brakes and perform brake replacement/adjustments/repairs, (e.g. top off/replace brake fluid, replace pads, have rotors turned, etc.). Additionally, brake inspection/service will be performed on a monthly basis for all vehicles used in Emergency Response, Pursuits, and Evasive Driving, or at request of the Government, when determined to be a safety issue
  • Inspect tires for tread wear and replace, or have tires replaced, as determined necessary and check air pressure and fill as needed using Government furnished air system (Contractor will be responsible for changing filters in accordance with the manufactures schedule)
  • Perform maintenance on all winches attached to vehicles (currently 6 winches)
  • Conduct emissions checks in accordance with the automotive maintenance schedule
  • Replace windshield wipers, light bulbs, fuses, generators, alternators, batteries and belts and mufflers/exhaust systems components in accordance with the automotive maintenance schedule, or when necessary
  • Subsequent to maintenance and/or repair training vehicles are to be cleaned, washed, and vacuumed prior to return to fleet. FLETC staff vehicles will be cleaned upon request
  • Provide a monthly vehicle and bus report
  • Generate orders for replenishment tires and batteries  

Qualifications

  • Be an ASE certified mechanic(s) with certifications in brakes, suspension, exhaust systems, air conditioning
  • Hold a DOT endorsement to be able to annually certify all center buses
  • Expertise in tools, minor equipment, and supplies (oil, air/oil/transmission filters, belts, hoses, antifreeze/coolant, windshield fluid, transmission fluid, brake fluid, spark plugs, asbestos free brake pads, etc.) to provide motor pool operations
